Is there a Preparatory Class at the Faculty?

- There is a compulsory preparatory class for the departments of Chemistry and Statistics. The preparatory class is optional at the departments of Physics, Biology, and Mathematics.

What is the faculty's medium of instruction?

- 30% of the courses at the Department of Statistics, and Chemistry are taught in the English language, whereas the other department's medium of instruction is 100% Turkish.

Can I learn another foreign language during my studies?

-The Faculty of Science also offers opportunities to learn a second foreign language apart from English, which is the medium of instruction. You always have the chance to learn a second foreign language at a certain level by enrolling in one of the offered foreign language elective courses such as French, German, Russian and Chinese.

Can I go abroad via exchange programmes?

-Considering the universal dimension of Basic Sciences education today, both scientific and cultural exchange programs are essential to accomplish the goals of continuous education. Therefore, within the framework of the university's policy and vision, students are encouraged to go abroad and many opportunities are offered to them for this end. Erasmus student exchange programme is one of the important opportunities for enrolling in courses in many European universities. In addition, Erasmus offers you the opportunity to work abroad for summer internships.

What are double major and minor degrees? What are the requirements?

-Double Major is a programme that enables students who meet the requirements to take courses simultaneously from two different programs of the same higher education institution and to be awarded two separate degrees. A minor is a program that enables students enrolled in a programme to receive a document (minor certificate) by taking a limited number of courses in another program in the same higher education institution, provided that they meet the stipulated criteria. Students are admitted to the Double Major and Minor Programmes in the departments of our faculty within the announced course capacities and application conditions each semester.

Is there a compulsory internship at the faculty?

-An internship is compulsory in the Departments of Biology, Physics, and Statistics, and optional in the other departments. Provided that it is not less than 20 days, all our students can do internships, and our Faculty offers the necessary insurance. If they are successful, they can be written on their transcripts with the decision of the Faculty Administrative Board.Click HERE for detailed information about internship.

What is Project Based Internship (PTS)? How can I apply?

-It is an effective and result-oriented internship program that contributes to the career planning of university students, where intern students can be selected from all faculties and departments within the body of Eskişehir Technical University for the projects realized / to be realized in line with the activities of the companies. In this program;

An academic advisor and an industrial advisor accompany the student during the internship process,

The student focuses on a specific project during the internship and adapts to the processes more quickly,

Depending on the company's request, the internship period can be between a minimum of 45 and a maximum of 90 working days,

The firm can choose its interns from among the students who have been pre-selected by the University and, if desired, can conduct the necessary interviews and exams on its own,

The student who will work on a project with a certain subject may have the opportunity to make preliminary preparations before the internship.

Is transfer between departments possible?

-Transfers are possible at the beginning of the third semester as the quotas determined for equivalent programmes permit. GPA and medium of instruction are the points of consideration for the transfer.

Who is an academic advisor?

-For each student in the units, a faculty member recommended by the head of the department/program they are registered for is assigned as an academic advisor by the dean/director. The advisor informs the student during the course selection process at the beginning of each semester and approves the registered course(s) after evaluating the academic status together with the student. In addition, the advisor monitors the student throughout his/her learning. S/he helps the student to adapt to university life, professional development, career, etc., and informs and guides. The advisor announces the weekly course schedule with the hours s/he will be in the study room during the add / delete week and throughout the semester. The advisor, who will not be able to be at the University due to a valid excuse during the add/delete week, notifies the head of the relevant department/program in a letter. The head of the department/program ensures that a faculty member is appointed as a temporary advisor by the dean/directorate during the registration period instead of this advisor and announces this to the relevant students.

Can students meet with the instructors whenever they wish?

-Students are always welcome to meet with the instructors. In addition, Academic Advisors, who will monitor and assist each student throughout their four-year education, are in close contact with the students.

Is financial support offered for students during undergraduate education?

-Students are encouraged and financially supported to present papers and posters in international scientific conventions, participate in international competitions, and exhibit artistic works and folk dances in art circles. In addition, students can be employed as part-time student employees in various units.

What conditions should I meet to graduate?

-It is required to take 240 ECTS courses and successfully pass them, to passElective and Vocational Elective Coursesthe Elective and Vocational Elective Courses required by the department and complete the Internship (where it is Compulsory), and to have a GPA of 2.00 and above. In departments with 30% Compulsory English, there is an additional requirement to have taken and succeeded in 72 ECTS English courses. Even if you have obtained the required GPA, make sure to check your Transcript whether you meet the Graduation requirement (Have the replacement procedures, etc. been done?). If all these processes are completed, you can apply to the student affairs with this petition.

How is the registration process done?

How many ECTS courses can I take in a semester?

-Students can enroll in courses with a maximum of 45 ECTS credits in the fall and spring semesters, and a maximum of 20 ECTS credits in summer school, provided that they get the approval of their advisor for each program they are registered for. Students who are graduating by the end of summer school can enroll in courses with a maximum of 25 ECTS credits in summer school. These credits include the credits of the course(s) taken from other higher education institutions.

What is Add-Drop Week?

During the "Add/Drop Week", students have the right to make changes in the courses they have chosen, and they shall notify this request to their academic advisor. If deemed necessary by the academic advisor, s/he will remove the academic advisor and student approvals and direct the student to the Student Information System. “Ekle/Sil Haftası” sonuna kadar tüm öğrenciler, ders seçim işlemini tamamlamak ve kayıtlarını akademik danışmanlarına onaylatmak zorundadır. Until the end of the "Add/Drop Week", all students must complete the course selection process and have their registrations approved by their academic advisors. The courses which have been chosen by the student without the approval of the academic advisor at the end of the "Add/Drop Week" will be deleted from the student.

Can I take courses from other universities?

(1) Students who continue their education at the university and who are at the stage of graduation in the fall/spring semester can take the course/courses equivalent with the content and credits from other higher education institutions, upon the recommendation of the relevant unit's board of directors and the decision of the University's Board of Directors within the framework of the Directive accepted by the Senate, provided that it has not been opened at that time or there is a course clash. (2) In accordance with the “Eskişehir Technical University's Directive on Summer School”, students can take courses from the summer schools of other higher education institutions, upon the recommendation of the relevant unit's board of directors and the decision of the University's Board of Directors within the framework of the principles determined by the Senate. (3) The transfer of credits and grades of the course(s) taken is done by the decision of the relevant unit's board of directors.
(4) The principles regarding the conversion of the grades obtained from other higher education institutions in the country or abroad into letter success grades of the University are determined by the University's Board of Directors.

What is REPLACEMENT?

-Students must complete the course selection process by taking into account the "Status" information in the "Grade Status Document" (Transcript). When choosing a course, if another course in a different code is taken instead of an elective course, the “Replacement”procedure must be done and the approval of the academic advisor must be obtained. In addition, if desired to take another course in a different code instead of a compulsory course, the system will not allow the "Replacement" procedure, and students therefore must apply to the relevant unit (Dean's Office/Directorate) with a petition after the registration approval. Applications for the "Replacement" procedure after the registration dates will not be evaluated.

What is Academic Notice?

Students with a GPA below 2.00 receive an Academic Notice. During the relevant period, failed courses (letter grade FF, YZ, and DZ) will be automatically assigned to the student by the system and the student will not be able to drop these courses. If any of these courses are not assigned to the student for various reasons, the student is obliged to contact the "Student Affairs Unit" and ensure that the relevant course/courses are assigned to him/her.The student who receives an academic inadequacy notice and cannot increase his/her GPA to 2.00 in the following semester must retake the courses with a letter grade below CC in the next semester as of the semester s/he received an academic inadequacy notice, together with the courses with a letter grade of FF, YZ or DZ. In this case, the student receives a "Course Repetition" notice, and the courses with a letter grade below CC are automatically assigned to him by the system and s/he cannot drop these courses.

Is there an Attendance Requirement?

-Attendance to theoretical and practical courses is required at least 70%. In courses which are both theoretical and practical, students who do not fulfill the attendance requirement for any part are deemed absent from that course. The attendance principles of practical courses and the practical parts of the courses can also be determined by the relevant unit's board of directors. However, students assigned to represent the University or Turkey by the unit's board of directors are deemed to be on leave within these periods upon the approval of the Rectorate. During the relevant dates, the student is deemed as present in the courses that he/she cannot attend. Students who do not fulfill the attendance requirement for a course cannot take the final, and if any, resit exams of that course.

Can I withdraw from courses? Do I have to take the course I have withdrawn from later?

-Students can withdraw from the course within 3 weeks after the add/drop week, by applying with a petitionwith the approval of their advisor. Students can withdraw from a maximum of 8 courses during their undergraduate education, with a maximum of one course per semester.

Those who come with External Transfer Exam can withdraw from 6 courses, and those who come with horizontal transfer can withdraw from a maximum of 4 courses during their undergraduate education. Those who withdraw from compulsory courses must take the courses they have withdrawn from, and those who withdraw from elective courses must take the course they have withdrawn from or another elective course.

After completing the elective or vocational elective course credits required for graduation, graduate students who take extra courses can withdraw from these courses until the end of the relevant semester, regardless of the number of courses they have taken before. SD letter grade is used for these courses. Students who go abroad with Erasmus are outside the scope of this article.

Procedures and Principles for Course Withdrawal

Can I withdraw from the course I took with the aim of increasing GPA?

- You can withdraw from the course by applying to the Faculty of Science Student Affairs Unit. So that students who withdraw from a course they have taken before to increase the grade point average will not be responsible for the course they have withdrawn from, that their grade in the semester before they have withdrawn from will be valid in the grade status document, and that the grade will be included in the grade point average, students must apply to our unit with a petition. After completing the elective or vocational elective course credits required for graduation, students who withdraw from the extra elective or vocational elective course(s) are given a letter grade of SD for the relevant course.

How can I obtain an Honor and a High Honor certificate?

(1) Those who have succeeded in at least 30 ECTS credits in any semester and those who have not exceeded the duration of the program with a GPA of 3.50 or higher are entitled to be "High Honor Students", and those with a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49 are entitled to be "Honor Students". However, a student who receives a disciplinary penalty and/or has FF, YZ, DZ, and EK letter grades in the relevant semester cannot be a "High Honor Student" or "Honor Student" even if he/she achieves the specified grade point average.

(2) A student with a GPA of 3.50 or higher graduates as a "High Honor Student" and the one with a GPA of 3.00-3.49 graduates as an "Honor Student". However, a student who receives a disciplinary penalty cannot graduate as a "High Honor Student" or "Honor Student" even if he/she achieves the specified GPA.

My exam result was lower than I expected. What can I do?

-Objection to the exam results is made with apetitionto the relevant unit within 5 working days following the announcement of the exam results on the University's website, only due to an error of fact. Objections are resolved after the examination made by the relevant unit's board of directors.

What are the points I need to pay attention to before and during the exams?

Can I retake the course I had already taken to raise my grade? Which one is measured as the average?

-Students who want to increase their "Grade Point Average" can retake the courses they have taken before. When calculating the "Grade Point Average", the last credit and grade of the repeated compulsory or elective course will be taken as a basis. In case of taking another course instead of the repeated elective course, the credit and grade of the last course taken will be taken as a basis.

Are ING325-ING 326 Academic English courses included in 72 ECTS English courses?

-Yes. Only students who have passed the preparatory class can take these courses.

Which Foreign Language Courses Should I Take?

-Students who have successfully completed the Preparatory Class must take;

How many Vocational Elective (VE) and Elective (E) Courses do I need to take?

How long do I have to graduate?

Education period

ARTICLE 6 - (1) The duration of the program for students to complete their education is 4 semesters for 2-year associate degree programs and 8 semesters for 4-year undergraduate programs, excluding foreign language preparatory class. These periods start when the student takes the courses related to the program s/he is enrolled in and the fact that the student does not register/renew registration does not stop the program duration from running. Students who cannot graduate at the end of the duration of the program are charged contribution/tuition fees according to the provisions of Articles 44 and 46 of Law No. 2547. According to the provisions of this article, students registered in the double major program are charged no contribution/tuition fee for the 1-year additional period given to complete their second major after the duration of the diploma program.
(2) Students who have completed their courses in the curriculum but have not completed their compulsory internship yet are not charged a contribution/tuition fee.
(3) Except for the foreign language preparatory class, the maximum period of study is 8 semesters for associate degree programs and 14 semesters for 4-year undergraduate programs. Students who cannot graduate at the end of the maximum duration either are charged contribution/tuition fees according to the provisions of Articles 44 and 46 of Law No. 2547. In this case, the student cannot benefit from student rights other than the right to attend classes and exams. Students enrolled in a double major program are charged a contribution/tuition fee according to the provisions of this article for the semesters after the education period of the diploma program and for the semesters after the 1-year additional period given to complete the second major.
(4) The foreign language preparation period is a maximum of 2 years and this period is not counted as the program duration and the maximum education period.
(5) Within the scope of exchange programs, semesters spent in higher education institutions in Turkey / abroad are included in the program duration and the maximum education period.

-How can I benefit from the Additional Exam?

ARTICLE 7 – (1) Additional examination right is given to the senior students who cannot graduate at the end of their maximum education duration, for the students who have been dismissed due to failure to obtain a GPA of 2.00 despite getting a passing grade in all courses required to graduate from the program they are enrolled in, and/or for the students who have been dismissed from educational institutions (including the preparatory class) because they cannot fulfill their exam obligations in accordance with the provisions of Articles 44 and 46 of Law No. 2547 despite having fulfilled their attendance obligations during and at the end of the semester, and/or to the intermediate class students who cannot achieve their grade point average, within the framework of the “Implementation Principles Regarding Article 44 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547” accepted by the Senate.

-How long does the Prep Class last maximum?

ARTICLE 15 –(1) In programs with a compulsory foreign language preparatory class, the student must pass the foreign language proficiency exam held by the University, or attend the foreign language preparatory class and be successful within 2 years to start the associate/undergraduate program. Additionally, those who are exempted from preparatory education in accordance with the provisions of "Eskişehir Technical University Vocational School of Foreign Languages' Directive on Foreign Language Preparatory Education-Teaching and Examination" can start the associate degree/undergraduate program.
(2) Students who cannot successfully complete the preparatory class of the programs with a completely or partially foreign language medium of instruction within 2 years are dismissed from the program. Article 44 of the Higher Education Law numbered 2547 and the relevant provisions of the "Eskişehir Technical University Vocational School of Foreign Languages' Directive on Foreign Language Education and Examination" are applied to the students who have been dismissed.

How can I be exempt from CoHE Compulsory English courses?

- Students of departments without a compulsory preparatory class and who want to be exempt from CoHE compulsory English courses must get 50 or more points out of 100 from the Placement Exam. Success grade is evaluated according to the grade conversion table accepted by the Senate. Those who get CC and above grades are deemed successful, and their grades are recorded on their transcripts. Grades below CC are not recorded on transcripts.

(1) Whether the students who enroll in a higher education program whose medium of instruction is Turkish for the first time will be exempt from foreign language courses, which must be given in accordance with the (i) subparagraph of the first paragraph of Article 5 of Law No. 2547, is determined by the decision of the senate of higher education institutions. and/or proficiency exam; it can also be determined by applying a separate compulsory foreign language exemption exam. Students who do not fulfill the exemption requirements have to take these courses and succeed in them
(2) Compulsory foreign language courses are programmed for at least two semesters to meet the foreign language knowledge level projected for that level in the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework.
(3) For students who are exempt from compulsory foreign language courses, or who have taken these courses and have succeded in them, elective foreign language courses can be offered in the following semesters.

-How many CoHE Elective courses do I need to take until I graduate? What are these courses?

Pursuant to Article 5/ı of Law No. 2547 "...one of the courses in physical education or fine arts is taught on condition that it is not compulsory...", our students are required to take at least one of the elective courses expressed as CoHE Elective courses until they graduate. Pursuant to this article, these courses may be the ones offered at our university and listed below (or similar courses taken previously).

KÜL 199 - Cultural Activities course is also included in this scope, but since it is no longer offered in our university, it is not included in the list below.

-Do I have to retake the Compulsory, Elective, and Vocational Elective courses I failed?

Students with FF and DZ letter grades must take these courses in the first semester they are opened. Failed compulsory courses must be taken until successful. Another course can be taken to replace the failed vocational elective and elective courses. In this case, when choosing a course, a replacementprocedure must be made.

- The course I want to take is not offered at our University. What do I need to do to take courses from outside the institution in the Summer School?

-I want to suspend study. How can I fulfill my request?

You must havea just and valid reasonfor your registration freeze request. If you have a justification that complies with the procedures and principles of our university, you must fill out the petitionon our website and submit it to the student affairs office (by hand or e-mail) with your evidence. Your request will be discussed and decided by the Faculty Administrative Board. Registration freeze is for a semester; if you have a valid reason, you must apply again at the beginning of the following semester.

-My Registration Freeze period has expired. What do I need to do to start my department?

You have to take no action. When your registration freeze period is over, your Active student period begins.

-My Maximum Duration has Expired. Can I benefit from the Additional Exam?
