Dean's Message

Dear Students;

Our Faculty, which strives to carry out our research and education activities at the highest level with the awareness of "The Most Genuine Guide in Life is Science,", as our Atatürk said, consists of 5 departments called "basic sciences", 3 of which are equipped with laboratory. These are Departments of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, and Mathematics. While the language of instruction is 30% English with a compulsory English Preparatory class in the departments of Statistics and Chemistry, and 70% Turkish, in departments of the Biology, Mathematics, and Physics it is 100% Turkish with an optional English preparatory class. As of 2021, 163 strong, distinguished, and dynamic academic staff are conducting undergraduate, graduate courses, and academic activities in our faculty.The number of our undergraduate and graduate students is 1403 and more than 600, respectively.

Based upon the awareness that effective research will reflect positively on education, our academic staff prioritizes all research activities. Our academic staff publishes in qualified journals and works on national and international projects.

Our faculty, which is, so to speak, the admiral of our university with all its publications, has also been accredited by the FEDEK accreditation institution. Our faculty is equipped with 23 research laboratories in the Department of Physics, 14 in Biology, 20 in Chemistry, as well as 5 computer laboratories in the Department of Statistics, and 5 in Mathematics.

The most important feature that distinguishes our faculty from other faculties is its strong laboratories, strong infrastructure opportunities, and thus providing quality education. In addition, all of our students have the opportunity to major and minor in other departments. As of the fall semester of 2021, three interdisciplinary minor programs have been opened in the departments of our Faculty. These are as follows: Business Analytics under the coordination of the Department of Statistics, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (CBRN) under the coordination of the Department of Biology, and Nanoscience under the coordination of the Department of Physics. The purpose of these minor programs is to equip our students with knowledge, skills, and competencies in line with the needs of the relevant sectors.

Academic Counseling is provided to all our undergraduate and graduate students in our student-centered faculty. Our students and academic staff have so far visited many universities in Europe within the scope of the Erasmus program and engaged in academic and educational activities. An internship is compulsory in the Departments of Biology, Physics, and Statistics, and optional in Mathematics and Chemistry in our faculty.

Although our faculty is equipped with qualified academicians and laboratory infrastructure, it will be your desire, determination, and hard work that will ensure success. Therefore, you will have to work hard for success, and then you will graduate with scientific, professional, and social competencies as a result of this work.Knowing that you have these competencies is our greatest strength.
